The Disney World complex in Bay Lake and Buena Vista, Florida is located near Orlando. While this is the case, it took extensive lobbying to the Government of Florida before the Reedy Creek Improvement district was constructed and developed. As part of the agreement, Disney gained the rights to be an autonomous incorporated city. While this was the case, Walt passed away before work began on the construction of the city. After which, the company began creating a resort similar to that of the park in California.
The company later abandoned the earlier concepts for a planned village and community. After which, Magic Kingdom was the first theme park to open in 1971. Later, Epcot was built in 1982, Hollywood Studios in 1989 and Animal Kingdom, the most recent in 1998. The newest attraction is that of the Star Wars Experience, complete with costumes, characters, games and rides related to the film enterprise.
