The Usefulness Of PRN Software

By Carmella Watts

PRN software can have the role of using script files that contains instructions for a printing device. Mostly, the system creates documents automatically, in order to convert word processor files into code. There are many benefits for PRN from a practical point of view. For making the scripts, programming languages are used.

A file has commands that are transmitted to a device and it refers to page content, size and type of paper and other elements that can be converted and executed by a printer. In the majority of cases, individuals do not have a direct contact with the files, as they are intermediary. People only need to use the options from an application or a word processor and the pages are created.

There are cases in which a file can be useful alone, because you can use it to print documents without accessing the word processor or the application in which it was initially created. The utility of PRN can be seen if you run a print shop and you provide paperwork just by using the intermediary file that contains the instructions. Managing the documents can be easier with special software.

There are two primary formats to use, but also a few secondary ones and they can work well with inkjet printers. The main designs are PostScript and PCL. The first format uses a page description language that was made in 1984 by Adobe. The platform can be used best for high volume systems and it has a versatile programming language. You can simply convert the files into PDF and use GhostScript to view them.

Hewlett Packard made the second option in the same year and it was called PCL, or Printer Command Language. The solution offered less functions than PostScript, but it had the advantage of increased performance. Over time, the number of capabilities has increased and the platform became similar to the system made by Adobe. Both solutions can have awesome practical usage for office environments and they can support most PRN software products.

There are many formats available today for PRN and most types of printers are compatible, including low volume inkjet devices and classical dot matrix systems. In order to make a file, you can have the option of a printing dialog that you can open from a word processor. If your application does not support the feature, use software that does. Usually, the PRN extension can be created by the driver of the device you use for translating the format into paperwork.

At the creation of a PRN file, before data is printed into paper, a text file is made that includes the code of the work. The documents can remain on the computer for later usage. If the project is opened in an editor, the things that are visible are the text and some junk characters, which the used program is usually not able to read. A complete view can be obtained with specialized software.

In the majority of cases, PRN software can be very helpful. When your printer does not work, saving the intermediary file of a project may be compulsory, for using it at a later time. PostScript and PCL are the basic types of files to use and they can work on almost all devices. IF you want a better management of your work, you can use PRN software, which has many useful functions, such as the possibility to see the entire script and convert it.
